Recipe | Sweetheart Ham with Cabbage and Apples
1 beautiful Sweetheart Ham
1 yellow onion peeled and sliced into 1/4 inch half moons
1 bay leaf
3 juniper berries
1 pint of hard apple cider
1 medium head of Napa cabbage, core removed and cut into one-inch squares
3 Braeburn apples, peeled and cut into wedges
1/2 cup of butter diced
Salt to tasteInstructions
Preheat your oven to 350.
While the oven preheats, put the onions, Sweetheart Ham, cider, bay leaf, and juniper berries in a pot and bring it to a simmer on the stovetop.
Once simmering, place a tight-fitting lid on the pot and put it into the oven to bake for 30 minutes. Then, add the cabbage and bake for another 15 minutes. Then, add the apples and bake for yet another 15 minutes.
Once the cabbage and apples are fully cooked and tender, remove the Sweetheart Ham to slice and add the butter to the cabbage and apples. Mix the butter evenly and add salt to taste. Place the sliced ham on top and serve!
